How the Scam Happened

Helen discovered her brother was seriously ill and needed chemotherapy while moving into her new home.

Helen decided to reduce her working hours to care for him during his treatment. Having lost her job, our client began considering investments to earn extra income during the pandemic, a time when many are financially strained.

After a friend introduced Helen to Cash FX, she began investigating. She stumbled upon a scam website, but it actually appeared legitimate and professional. The website featured customer reviews, a Canary Wharf address, and live trading data.

During the "investment" process, our client was asked to upload photo identification, which further convinced her that the trading platform was legitimate.

Helen was advised to directly transfer money to the scammers' account so they could transfer the funds into her trading account. She found her funds had increased by 24% and requested a withdrawal. Our client's account was subsequently frozen, and she was unable to contact anyone to retrieve her funds.

This scam had a profound emotional impact on our client, as she still had responsibilities caring for her younger brother who was undergoing chemotherapy.
